Home improvement CRM:the tool, and the person who has to run it.
A home improvement CRM is a database that holds your customers, your jobs, and your pipeline in one place so nothing has to live in a notebook or a text thread.
Every CRM assumes somebody is operating it - entering the lead, setting the appointment, sending the confirmation, updating the stage, chasing what stalled. For most contractors that person doesn't exist, so the CRM slowly becomes a list of things nobody did.
What does a home improvement CRM do?
It holds the customer, the job, and the stage that job is in. Where the lead came from. What was quoted. What was signed. What is still open. Good ones automate the small stuff - a confirmation text, a reminder, a task that fires when a stage moves.
The value is that nothing has to live in a notebook, a truck console, or one person's head. Everybody can see the same pipeline at the same time.
Why do most contractor CRMs go unused?
Not because the tool is bad. Because a CRM only tells the truth if somebody keeps it current, and keeping it current is a job. Stages go stale. Notes stop getting written. Half the pipeline is real and half of it is from March.
Once you cannot trust what is on the screen, you stop looking at the screen. Then you are back to the notebook, still paying for the software.
Who is supposed to operate the CRM?
In a big company, that is somebody's whole job. In an owner-led contracting company, it lands on the owner - the same person running the appointments and closing at the kitchen table. It gets done at night, or it doesn't get done.
Hiring for it is the obvious answer and the hard one. You are hiring a role you have never managed, to run a system you have not written down.
What's the difference between buying a CRM and having one run for you?
Buying a CRM gets you the database. Having one run for you means the entering, the setting, the confirming, the stage-moving, and the chasing are done by people whose job that is.

The tool is the easy part. Operating it is the job.
Blue Collar Infrastructure is the customer-facing operation for contractors. The contractor builds the job. We handle the customer.
